FRED ATHAY – NEVER FORGOTTEN

fred1

Fred Athay had a dream for Branson that was not centered around music. He believed that the entertainment capital of the world which was founded on live music and comedy revues, would respond well to, of all things, comedic murder mysteries. “It’s something very unique to Branson,” said Fred Athay, as managing director of Ozark Murder Mysteries. “There isn’t really anything like it. I’ve thought for years that a show that’s scripted and well acted, yet interactive with the audience, would be successful here.”

And he was right! For almost four years Fred assembled talented cast members and actors who interacted with the audience, sometimes as servers for dinner, to successfully draw in the guests as “extras” and as part of a mystery. The Ozark Murder Mystery, that is. He was encouraged by the positive response from audience members who after each performance remarked they had never laughed so hard in years.

The beloved director who shared his dream and vision with Branson visitors passed away this week. But Fred Athay’s work will continue according to Helena Lee , President of the Ozark Murder Mysteries. “This was his dream. He came here with nothing, but a dream, hope, and prayer, and look at where we are today! The Ozark Murder Mysteries will continue at the Branson Central Theatre. Check their schedules for dates and times.

Almost famous, never forgotten, always remembered. Rest in Peace, Fred Athay.
